Capacity Builder
The organization funds capacity building efforts or operational support to nonprofits working on public policy. They may fund projects related to research or advocacy and host trainings for grantees about how to engage in policy advocacy.
Tactics
- Include nonprofit advocacy/policy research/policy education as part of activities outlined as encouraged in grant RFPs.
- Host trainings for grantees on limits and importance of nonprofits lobbying, and best practices.
- Offer access to your lawyers and lobbyists for your nonprofit grantees.
- Create a quick-response fund for your grantees to tap into in order to advocate for their missions and educate policymakers in a timely, effective fashion.
- Invest in grassroots organizing and “infrastructure” – i.e., building the networks with adequate resources who lift and empower the voices of everyday Floridians. This is a more systemically-aimed tactic, which requires a longer time horizon for success.
